You may be surprised to hear that the majority of injuries sustained in sports are non-contact!

A number of factors contribute towards risk of injury. These can include but are not limited to’

  1. The sport we play

  2. How much/how frequently and on what surface we play

  3. Performance parameters such as strength, mobility of joints, how quickly muscles can work and how we move (accelerate, decelerate, twist, turn, change direction or transition between movements)

  4. Being within certain age groups

  5. Gender

Evidence shows us that sports injury risks can be reduced massively. Even a simple, suitable, dynamic warm up, can reduce injury rates in soccer by between 30 and 70%!

Such measures are a great starting point. However, a comprehensive, individualised, assessment or screening taking into account the factors above and more can be used to identify an athlete who may be at a greater risk of injury.

The finer details do matter! For example, in those recovering from ACL reconstruction every 1% difference in quadricep strength increases injury risk by 3%. And with 1 in 3 of those currently returning to sport suffering another ACL injury within 3 years it is vital that comprehensive screening takes place prior to a return to previous activity.

Using a combination of expert knowledge, technology and field based testing our physiotherapists are able to highlight any increased potential for injury

Individualised injury prevention programs can be provided to address any issues found and mitigate the risk of injury

Injury prevention screenings are tailored to the individual and their sports specific demands

Whether it’s pre-season testing, you are seeking to return to sport following an injury or have decided to return to a sport after a long lay off, a comprehensive injury screening is a recommended and highly useful undertaking.

Pre-season injury screening packages are available for sporting teams and associations. Please do not hesitate to contact us for more info
