Regardless of the sport, one of the quickest way to become a better player or competitor is to improve athletic and cognitive abilities

The vast majority of sports look very different now to 20 or 30 years ago. Put simply, modern sports require athletes to run faster, jump higher, change direction more frequently and think more rapidly than ever before.

Whilst some people may be born with natural athletic abilities such as good speed or acceleration, these traits can also be trained!

Sports performance goes way beyond merely going through the motions in a gym and can be generally categorised into two groups of traits.

  1. Technical and cognitive abilities - factors such good technique, movement planning or ability to “think on your feet”

  2. Athletic Ability - the physical capabilities needed to perform movement such as acceleration, deceleration, sprinting, running, changing direction, jumping, landing, kicking and throwing effectively.

Training these fundamentals can have a huge impact on performance and gives a solid base for coaches across all types of sports to build upon.

A sports performance assessment and program goes far beyond simply lifting some weights in the gym

  • It involves an individualised, sports-specific assessment and testing of the way you think, move and perform. With specific areas for development identified.

  • Assessment may look very different depending on the sport at hand. A long distance runner must possess great efficiency to perform well, whilst a defender in soccer must be able to respond quickly and backpedal.

  • Even in the same sport no two individuals are the same and may have totally different reasons for the exact same problem e.g. jump height or sprint speed

  • Once areas for development and their reasons are identified we are able to tailor a program specifically for the individual with realistic goals and retesting dates put into place

  • All of our development programs are demonstrated and initially completed by the individual at our in-house gym’s, with use of our gym facilities as required
